Comercio exterior: Ecuador registró $ 6.678 millones de superávit comercial en 2024, el saldo más alto en dolarización

La Federación de Exportadores espera que Ecuador logre un acuerdo comercial con Estados Unidos, ya que cada año se pierden $ 285 millones. La balanza comercial de Ecuador en 2024 cerró con un resultado histórico positivo. El país registró un superávit comercial de $ 6.678 millones, la mayor cifra registrada desde que se implementó la dolarización, según datos de la Federación Ecuatoriana de Exportadores (FEDEXPOR). Esto significa que hubo más exportaciones, que importaciones.
El saldo positivo de la balanza comercial estuvo empujado por el buen rendimiento del sector no petrolero, cuyas exportaciones sumaron $ 24.849 millones. En tanto, las importaciones se contrajeron 5 % en relación de 2023 debido a una menor demanda interna, informó Fedexpor, en un evento desarrollado el martes 18 de febrero.
Los principales destinos de las exportaciones ecuatorianas son:
Unión Europea: Con el 25 % de participación. Sumó exportaciones por $ 5.513 millones, lo que implicó un crecimiento del 38 %.
Estados Unidos: Abarca el 21 % de participación. Las exportaciones ascendieron a $ 4.584 millones, con un crecimiento del 15 %.
China: Concentra el 17 % de participación. Se exportaron $ 3.731 millones, que fueron un 14 % menos que en 2023.
Comunidad Andina: Tiene el 6 % de participación, con exportaciones de $ 1.278 millones en 2024, que resultaron ser 11 % más que el año anterior.
Lo que se espera para 2025
Las perspectivas para 2025 son que las exportaciones no petroleras y no mineras aumenten un 3 % en volumen y un dígito en valor.
Para la Federación, este año representa un escenario de “incertidumbres”, ya que existen varios factores, internos y externos, que podrían influir en el desempeño del sector exportador, los cuales están relacionados con políticas arancelarias, condiciones climáticas, el precio del cacao en grano, entre otros.
También se evalúan los efectos de los resultados electorales presidenciales en Ecuador, que el 13 de abril definirá en las urnas quien gobernará el país los próximos cuatro años y, con ello, cuál será la visión de la política de comercio exterior.
De igual manera, se espera conocer cómo será el comportamiento de la Unión Europea tras las elecciones en varios países de la comunidad.
Estados Unidos, el actor clave
La Federación de Exportadores espera que Ecuador sea incluido en la lista de países elegibles para negociar un tratado de libre comercio (TCL) con Estados Unidos.
Felipe Rivadeneira, presidente de la Fedexpor, mencionó que la Oficina del Representante Comercial de EE. UU. (USTR, por sus siglas en inglés) se puso como plazo definir el listado hasta el 1 de abril; es decir, 12 días antes de las elecciones en Ecuador.
Rivadeneira reiteró que el país debe trabajar para lograr un acuerdo comercial con Estados Unidos, para lo cual se requiere una buena relación con la administración de Donald Trump.
Lamentó que Ecuador no haya firmado el TLC con Washington en 2005, lo cual ha limitado la expansión de las exportaciones ecuatorianas debido a las barreras arancelaras que restan competitividad.
Según datos del gremio, Ecuador pierde $ 285 millones cada año en exportaciones por no tener acuerdo con EE. UU. Además en 2024 los productos ecuatorianos pagaron $ 88,4 millones en aranceles para ingresar a ese mercado. (I)
