Ecuador no importará sorbetes plásticos de un solo uso

El Comité de Comercio Exterior (Comex) prohíbe la importación sorbetes plásticos de un solo uso, en cumplimiento de la Ley para la Racionalización, Reutilización y Reducción de Plásticos de Un Solo Uso.
«La eliminación progresiva de los sorbetes plásticos responde a la necesidad de reducir la contaminación marina y terrestre. Se estima que millones de estos utensilios terminan en los océanos cada año, afectando la vida marina que puede ingerirlos», explica el Ministerio de Producción, en un comunicado, con fecha 18 de febrero de 2025.
Con esta normativa, el Gobierno de Ecuador busca «fomentar el uso de opciones más amigables con el ambiente, como sorbetes de papel, metal, bambú, o simplemente eliminar su uso cuando no sea necesario», añade la Cartera de Producción.
Según el comunicado del Ministerio, el cumplimiento de esta medida aplica a establecimientos comerciales, distribuidores y fabricantes. Y añade que «supermercados, restaurantes y negocios de expendio de bebidas deberán reemplazar los sorbetes plásticos de un solo uso por alternativas sostenibles, evitando su entrega a clientes».
De igual manera, las empresas importadoras deberán «ajustar su oferta a materiales reutilizables o biodegradables», señala el Ministerio.
