¿Qué son los twistlocks?
Los twistlocks son dispositivos mecánicos de fijación que se utilizan para asegurar los contenedores entre sí o al piso del buque. Su diseño consiste en un pasador metálico que encaja en las esquinas de los contenedores (conocidas como «esquinas de amarre» o corner castings) y que, mediante un giro, bloquea el contenedor en su lugar.
Tipos de twistlocks:
- Twistlocks manuales: Los operarios deben activarlos manualmente girando el mecanismo para bloquear o desbloquear el contenedor.
- Twistlocks automáticos: Funcionan sin intervención manual directa y se activan cuando el contenedor es colocado correctamente.
- Semi-automáticos: Combinan características de los dos anteriores, siendo más versátiles en ciertas operaciones.
Este artilugio es muy importante en el transporte internacional de carga, en los buques mercantes ayuda a que los containers no se muevan, asegurándolos entre ellos y a la cubierta del barco, manteniendo la solidez en el transporte de los mismos hacia su destino.
